Sartorius Stedim Biotech has completed the expansion of its facility to extend the manufacture of single-use bioreactors at the Swiss facility in Tagelswangen, near Zurich. The company created additional cleanroom capacity, thus doubling its production output compared with its former level. This added capacity was necessary to meet the rising demand for single-use bioreactors. At its Tagelswangen site, the company manufactures CultiBag RM single-use bioreactors that pharma and biotech customers of Sartorius Stedim Biotech utilize for cell cultivation.
CultiBag RM bags are supplied as sterilised and ready-to-use units in combination with the mixing and control hardware for cell cultivation. The bags are available in a choice of sizes ranging from 1 liter to 600 liters and with a selection of customer-specific set-ups. The standard CultiBag RM units are offered in two configurations. The first is a basic optical version with pre-installed disposable pH and oxygen sensors. The second is the Perfusion Pro version with pre-installed disposable pH and DO sensors and a perfusion membrane. Single-use bioreactors are an innovative alternative to traditional reusable stainless steel systems and are used by the biopharmaceutical industry to produce vaccines and monoclonal antibodies, for instance.
