Next year, Barcelona will become a point of reference for the chemical industry thanks to the Expoquimia, the International Chemical Industry Show. Organised every three years, the show is committed to increasing its internationalism. It will be held alongside Equiplast and Eurosurfas to give rise to the largest Applied Chemistry Event of the Mediterranean. In 2005, 2,552 companies from 46 countries took part. From the 20th to the 24th of October 2008, Expoquimia will again bring together the Mediterranean area’s largest number of chemical companies in the Gran Via exhibition centre. The organisers of the 15th show expect an increase in international participation. In Expoquimia 2008, biotechnology will again play an important role since, in recent years, Catalonia has demonstrated that it has great potential in this field. There will also be conferences and round tables such as the Instrumental Analysis Sessions, the Mediterranean Chemical Engineering Congress and the international industrial safety sessions. The show will also host the 2nd Expoquimia Research, Development and Innovation Awards, a project which promotes research and innovation among young Spanish scientists.
