Structured packages made of polypropylene such as the 2H Massdek by GEA Heat Exchangers are an attractive alternative to packed beds for use in packed columns and gas scrubbers. These packages offer outstanding gas and liquid distribution, operate with low pressure drop, and maintain the original gas and liquid distribution even with appreciable bed heights. They feature a lesser share of horizontal surfaces than random packages and are characterised by absolutely uniform distribution of specific surface area throughout the column cross-section. Thus the risk of clogging is minimised. Various versions of the structured package allow matching to the respective area of application. For all types, however, the sheets are welded with more than 10,000 to 20,000 welding spots per m3. The structured packages withstand walking loads without additional support. Their forms remain stable over years and they can be disposed of environmentally friendly or recycled at the end of their service lives.
