The Cryodry process from Messer is an environmentally-friendly alternative for freeze-drying, utilizing liquid nitrogen as a refrigerant. As a result, the condenser temperature can be set to as low as -120 °C. A further improvement to this process is the Cryodry Rotamat, which is autoclavable and can be validated.
The Cryodry Rotamat, with its rotating drying chamber, simplifies the labor-intensive task of handling the product. The pellets created by the freezing of biological and pharmaceutical solutions have up to now mostly been poured into basins and then placed into a vacuum drying chamber on pallets. With the Cryodry Rotamat machines, this extra step is rendered unnecessary.
Meeting GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards, the Cryodry Rotamat is not only CFC-free, but it also offers the advantages of low service and maintenance costs (having no need for a compressor), as well as reduced drying times and product strain. The maximum batch size per operation cycle is 300 kg of product.
