With the WTP system LOB has developed a tempering system which has proven to be an alternative to the double jacket and the half tube coil-shell in many fields of application. The system which can be employed at operating pressures of up to 50 bar and temperatures of more than 300 °C provides a good heat transmission characteristic. With an optimum system layout even values of up to 5,000 W/(m2 K) can be achieved. Up to now the WTP system could only be used on the outer surface of the vessel: Here, an outer jacket of max. 2 mm wall thickness is attached by means of laser spot welding. This jacket is then widened by internal pressure forming. In this way hollow spaces are produced through which gaseous or liquid heat transfer media can flow. Now this heat transfer principle can also be used on the inner surface of the vessel. Particularly in the case of thick-walled vessels and agitator vessels this results in considerable increases in heat transfer efficiency – with the consequence that the desired temperature windows can be maintained very accurately.
