A new isolation method for antibodies, a predictive maintenance tool for pipe networks, and software for modular processing are the technologies developed by the three winners of the 2022 ACHEMA Start-Up Award. The three start-up companies responsible for them – Lumatix Biotech, PipePredict and Semodia, respectively – were honored at an award ceremony Wednesday evening.

Award organizer Dechema said the three winners “stood out both for innovative ideas that can achieve a wide reach and solve current challenges in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, but also for solid business plans.”

Lumatix Biotech is working to increase the availability and affordability of antibodies by developing an isolation method based on a light-driven affinity matrix. It is designed to replace the traditional enrichment method using protein-A chromatography.

PipePredict provides a predictive maintenance tool to reduce energy and media losses in pipe networks. Existing sensor data are evaluated with a digital twin and machine learning algorithms, thereby preventing pipe bursts.

Semodia offers software that applies the principle of “plug&play,“ found in IT, to modular proccessing: a Plug-and-Produce approach using Module Type Package (MTP).

The winners will each receive 10,000 euros. They were selected by an expert jury from among 10 finalists, who themselves were chosen out of more than 30 initial applications.

The award program is organized by DECHEMA, High-Tech Gründerfonds and Business Angels Frankfurt RheinMain, with the support of premium partner Clariant. scj
