High performance plastics have become an important alternative to traditional materials previously used in chemical, plant and process equipment. They are replacing high alloyed steels and ceramics and bring advantages in terms of cost and performance. Hetragon is a recent example of this and is a fluoropolymer PTFE element with outstanding chemical resistance and load deflection characteristics. Developed by Elring Klinger for use as a support plate in mass transfer and fractional distillation columns, Hetragon is designed to work in corrosive chemistry applications and offers greater long-term performance than existing steel and ceramic products.
