On course for growth

Jumo Group continues its positive business development in 2013
On course for growth

The Fulda-based Jumo Group once again held its own in a challenging market in 2013 and enjoyed considerable growth, bucking the industry trend. Consolidated revenue grew by 6 % while the headcount rose by 6.5 %. According to the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers‘ Association (ZVEI), revenue for the entire German electrical industry fell by 2.4 % in 2013.

The Jumo business group has been on a successful path to growth for the last few years. “Our progress in the past fiscal year was very pleasing. Despite a challenging market environment in Europe, we increased our revenue to 218 million euros from 205 million euros in 2012. This means that it has grown by over 20 % since 2010”, explains Bernhard Juchheim, CEO of the Jumo Group. Jumo Germany’s revenue was up 6 % on the previous year at 161 million euros, while the subsidiaries grew by 8 %. At the end of last year, orders in hand amounted to nearly 44 million euros. The company’s export ratio remained stable at 54 %. “We are continuing on our successful course as a high-tech supplier of sensor technology and automation and are opening up more and more markets around the world with our innovative products”, adds Michael Juchheim, who runs the company as CEO alongside his father.

Healthy finances and liquidity enabled investments of 9.5 million euros in Germany in 2013. More than 800,000 euros were invested in new machinery alone. Since the market for existing products is saturated, Jumo is also planning a new plant in Fulda. About 100,000 m² of land have been acquired at the Fulda headquarters for this purpose. In the coming years, a new facility will be built on this site to accommodate 600 staff. The production space will be almost tripled once it is completed. “We feel the increasing pressure from international competitors and have therefore steered our company in a new direction by taking various measures”, the younger of the two CEOs continues. Extending the international production network will be another strategic step. The Jumo site in Romania will be closely integrated. “It is a fact that certain products can no longer be produced competitively in Germany because of the high labour costs. As a result, we use our sites in Romania and China as extended workbenches.” The Jumo Group has made a clear commitment to above-average growth and plans to increase its revenue by 9 % to 237 million euros in 2014. Based on how business has been going in the first few months, Bernhard and Michael Juchheim believe this target to be a realistic one.
Calorimetric flow sensor
On the technical side, Jumo has just presented its first flow sensor without moving parts. Pinos L01 works according to the calorimetric measurement principle. The measurement is taken using temperature sensors. The sensor is submerged in the flowing medium, which washes around it. Pinos L01 is suitable for water and watery media. It can be used, for example, to check cooling circuits, compressors, pumps and heat exchangers. However, it can also be employed to monitor leaks or protect pumps against dry running as well as in lubricant circuits. It is characterised by quick response times, simple installation that does not depend on the direction and easy operation. It is configured via a USB interface with the user-friendly setup software. The measured values appear at an analogue output ((0)4…20 mA). Pinos L01 is rated for a nominal pressure of up to 25 bar and flow rates from 10 to 150 cm/s. The process connection is established using suitable stainless steel fittings with a nominal pipe width of DN 20 to DN 100. The flow sensor is also available as a flow monitor for which the switching point can be set on-site. With its robust design offering IP 65/67 protection, the flow sensor is additionally ideal in harsh environments. Reliable operation is guaranteed at any ambient temperature from -25 to +70 °C. The temperature of the measuring medium can range from -25 to +80 °C.
