Building on proven technology, Gericke has introduced a complete range of centrifugal sifters with an updated design and operational features. They satisfy the demands of today’s processing industries, especially with regard to sieving efficiency, higher yields, improved hygiene, ease of maintenance and compliance with the latest industry standards including the Machinery and Atex Directives.
Gericke‘s range of Mk III centrifugal sifters provides three basic modules incorporating twelve standard configurations, which can be optimised in various ways to suit different processes depending on the requirements of the application: throughput rate, mesh size, construction materials, surface finish and hygiene. The Baseline model provides a cost effective solution for general applications while the Multi-purpose unit includes additional features such as hinged doors to improve access for cleaning and maintenance. The Hypergienic model is designed to meet even the most stringent requirements for cleaning and hygiene and features a cantilevered shaft assembly with bearings at the drive end only, three hinged interlocked doors, a quick-release fully-welded paddle assembly and integral discharge hoppers. The Atex certified sifters cover three main operations of the sifting process:
  • Particle separation: The separation of two different product fractions of varying particle size, typically within the range from 40 μm to 5 mm
  • Safety sifting: Removal of foreign parts and tramp material before the product enters the production process or to safeguard product quality prior to filling processes
  • Conditioning: Separation of foreign bodies and conditioning the bulk density of the product upfront of production or immediately before packing
The basic principles of centrifugal sifting ensure high-level performance and optimum separation with a minimal footprint. Sifting capacities from 2 to 3 kg/h guarantee high product quality for small batches up to 120 t/h, reducing the time to fill road tankers.
Design features
A critical element of any successful sifter application is the correct choice of the sieve hose for optimum performance. Gericke offers a broad array of screen sizes and colours from stock, including HD nylon, anti-static, polypropylene, perforated plate and wedge wire. The centrifugal sifters are widely used throughout the chemical, food, plastics, pet food and pharmaceutical industries, where process requirements are increasingly subject to Atex categorisation. Mk III sifters are designed and certified for Atex Zone 21 (external) or 20 (internal), for use with dusts with a minimum ignition energy (MIE) greater than 3 mJ. The full range of screens can be utilised within the Atex certification, taking into account risks such as propagating brush discharge.
The sifters are available for in-house trials at Gericke’s test facilities at various locations around the world, where clients can test their specific materials and determine the correct machine size and configuration for their application. If desired, machines can be rented for field trials and long term testing in the client’s actual production conditions and environment. In addition, machinery and systems are provided for all bulk handling processes.
